UPDATE: Information on STAAR Retests for 5th and 8th Grades
June 16, 2016
Based upon the state’s recent decisions regarding the third administration of the state assessment (STAAR), LISD will be proceeding as follows:
The Rising STAAR Camp for 5th graders and the STAAR Academy for 8th graders, who did not meet standard on STAAR Math and/or Reading, will continue through Monday, June 20, at Cedar Park High School. This decision continues to emphasize our district’s focus on student learning and the opportunity to provide interventions to support this learning.
Grade placement decisions will be based on LISD promotion policy which states: “In grades 4-8, promotion to the next grade level shall be based on an overall average of 70 on a scale of 100 based upon course-level, grade-level standards (essential knowledge and skills) for all subject areas and a grade of 70 or above in three of the following areas: language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.” Based upon this promotion policy, individual letters will be mailed by June 23rd addressing grade placement for students.
If you have any further questions at this time, please feel free to contact me at 512-570-0259 or our State Assessment Coordinator, Jennifer Freeman, at 512-570-0262.*
*Please note that our district offices will be closed from June 29th through July 10th.

District Offering English as a Second Language Program for Adults
The Leander ISD English Literacy and Civics program offers free classes to adults who would like to improve their English skills for activities including communicating with their child’s teacher, working and living in the community, helping their child with homework, or achieving their citizenship.
Classes are held in the evenings at Bagdad Elementary and are available to all parents of LISD school children and members of the community. Adult learners in the EL Civics program learn to listen actively, speak so others can understand, read with understanding, convey ideas in writing, use computers, be a good community member and understand local laws, and be an actively involved parent.
See more information about the program. Please call 512-570-5929 if you have questions. See flyer. En Español.
